Our life-changing experience in Peru
This past winter, our BGSU Medlife chapter traveled to Lima, Peru, and volunteered with Medlife to help run the mobile medical clinics there. While working alongside the community, we also built a staircase to improve the people's quality of living.
On the trip, our members shadowed local doctors, dentists, and pharmacists. We also assisted in the triage station taking patients' blood pressure, height, and weight, taught children oral hygiene skills, and assisted in educational discussions led by local nurses.
We were so inspired by our last trip, that we are raising funds to go back and leave an even greater impact. Our next upcoming clinic will take place May 7-14. The students will be traveling to Cusco, Peru, to help the indigenous peoples in the highlands of Machu Pichu by providing medicine, education, and development. BGSU Medlife cannot wait to send more members to share in a similar experience.
What this project means for BGSU students
This project is important for many reasons. First, your donation will afford BGSU students the opportunity to travel abroad and gain an educational experience they would not otherwise receive. Secondly, BGSU students, also assist Medlife in its mission to deliver medicine, education, and development to low-income families everywhere. The hopes for this project are to be able to continually support students financially to be able to participate in Medlife's mobile clinics far into the future.
Medlife is a non-profit organization that sets up mobile medical clinics in Peru, Ecuador, Tanzania, and now Nicaragua and India! These mobile clinics help to provide health care to those in rural or poor areas who otherwise may not have access to medical services by providing doctors, dentists, gynecologists, medications, and educational workshops.
Medlife coordinates the efforts of motivated students, local medical professionals, and communities in need to make these mobile medical clinics happen, and thus deliver medical, educational, and developmental services to the poor. These programs and projects serve three general goals: to improve the overall well-being and health of the community, to develop the existing infrastructure so as to ensure sustainable change, and to educate and prepare students for future careers in international developmental global health.
Your donation matters
There are many costs involved in sending our student members abroad. Some specific levels of giving associated with our various expenses are listed at the right, but a donation of any amount will help! All donations will directly benefit those members attending the clinic. Thank you for supporting BGSU students today.
