On May 15, the decision by BGSU to eliminate the baseball program was one of the significant actions taken to help address $29 million in University-wide budget constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Within hours, a passionate group of baseball alumni, fans and parents began a rally to save the program. Within three weeks, they informed University leadership that $1.5 million in pledges, $500,000 per year for each of the next three years, had been secured. In response to this positive and productive effort, the University reinstated baseball.
The annual budget for the baseball program is $750,000 per year, including approximately $250,000 for student-athlete scholarships and $500,000 for baseball operations and personnel. Although this is a large amount, it is below the MAC baseball annual budget average of $1 million. Now is the time to leverage the recent fundraising momentum, accelerate support for BGSU baseball and pursue a long-term funding solution to sustain the program.
The Baseball Operations Support Fund has been created exclusively for contributions to baseball. We encourage you to join this effort and make a cash gift or multi-payment pledge today.
If you would like to mail in your contribution or make a multi-year commitment, please use this pledge form. You are welcome to print and mail it to BGSU Foundation Office 1851 N.
