Support BGSU Spirit Skaters

The BGSU Spirit Skaters is a club sports organization for figure skaters. The Spirit Skaters are a part of all the home Falcon hockey games. They shovel the ice and perform before the puck drops as well as during intermissions. Throughout the games, they help cheer on the Falcons and assist in any ongoing promotions. 

Since its start in 2013, Spirit Skaters has continued to build as an organization and become more involved in the process of putting on home hockey games. In the past, we have been completely self-funded by our skaters and their additional fundraising efforts. During the 2020-2021 hockey season, we were unable to proceed with our normal activities. Due to COVID restrictions, we were unable to hold tryouts, team practices, or do performances, temporarily reducing the group to only helping shovel the ice during games. This year we’re looking to rebuild our team to what it was before and then develop our organization even more. 

Figure skating has a long history here at BGSU and the Slater Family Ice Arena. From our campus organizations to skaters such as 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton who grew up in Bowling Green and still hosts events at the ice arena, figure skating is a prevalent part of the community. It is our goal to continue Spirit Skaters as a program and expand upon its foundation, making it a point of interest for incoming students considering BGSU. Additionally, we wish to further share our individual passions for figure skating and school spirit, bringing it to both students and the community. By donating to Spirit Skaters, we would be able to cover costs such as ice time, coaching, dresses, bows, and pompoms. These factors allow us to better interact with fans and perform at hockey games.
