We Are One Team

My name is Rebecca Erwin and I am a senior Journalism major with a specialization in Public Relations and a double minor in Marketing and Communication. I am from Franklin, Ohio, around the Dayton area. Some organizations I am involved in include being a Co-Captain of the BGSU Dance Team, a Campus Tour Guide for the Office of Admissions and a member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity

The fund that I selected is We Are One Team (WA1T). This is a student-run, campus wide initiative that promotes diversity and inclusion through the power of sport. This fund positively impacts BGSU because WA1T offers a variety of programs and events for everyone to get involved in. One event WA1T hosts is sporting days, where international students get to interact with BGSU athletes and learn how to play their sport. WA1T also brings in guest speakers, like Paralympian swimmer, Jessica Long, to speak about different diversity and inclusion topics. WA1T also has a photo campaign which features members of the Bowling Green community and what diversity and inclusion means to them.

I selected this fund because WA1T is the first initiative of its kind to be started on a college campus and just recently won the 2017 NCAA Award for Diversity and Inclusion. This initiative focuses on making BGSU as inclusive as possible and welcoming all people of different backgrounds through the power of sport.
