Battle of the Decades (1980-1989)
Life at BGSU in the 1980s
As a student at BGSU in the 1980s, you may remember cheering wildly as the hockey team claimed a National Championship in 1984, President Ronald Reagan visiting Bowling Green, gathering for the “Beta 500,” watching concerts at Anderson Arena featuring standouts like the Michael Stanley Band, the BusBoys and the Stray Cats, and seeing the success of the football and basketball teams. You also remember experiencing the tragic death of former BGSU President Hollis Moore and the fatal plane crash at Frazee apartments.
While we each had unique experiences at BGSU, we are united as graduates from the 1980s decade. As alumni of the decade, we are inviting you to connect, or re-connect, with campus to provide even greater opportunities for our fellow Falcons. You can provide an immediate and lasting impact for students through scholarship and academic support, enriching student life, creating innovative learning spaces, and more.
And in the spirit of good, clean competition, your support also puts the 1980s decade one step closer to being crowned the champion of the “Battle of the Decades.” The winning decade will be recognized at a Homecoming celebration event based on highest alumni participation, measured through this “Falcon Funded” website. We will even have the opportunity to participate in a long-standing BGSU tradition – painting the spirit rock!
If you have never made a gift to BGSU, or it has been several years since your last gift, now is especially a great time to show your support for your alma mater and future generations of Falcons. An anonymous donor will make a $10 donation for each alumnus or alumna who makes a first time gift. Our students continue to shine here on campus, and through your generous support, they can continue to build on the legacy you left behind.
