President's Leadership Academy

My Falcon Funded project for Homecoming 2018 is the Sidney A. Ribeau President's Leadership Academy (PLA). PLA a is four year servant leadership scholarship program unique to Bowling Green State University. PLA's core values are Service, Learning, Integrity and Credibility, in addition to identifying with the BGSU core values. On top of extensive leadership opportunities and education provided throughout the University experience, members benefit from a four-year renewable scholarship.

PLA members start their college career by spending a month the summer before their first semester in a rigorous program that prepares them for the initial transition between high school and college. Throughout their college experience, older members are required to develop mentor-style relationships with younger members to help guide them through their experience. The fourth year in PLA leads to two capstone projects for seniors to share their growth through collaboration with their cohort in the creation and execution of the annual PLA-wide fall retreat and spring service project. There are many more required and optional leadership opportunities provided as well throughout a scholar's four years.

Providing a student with the opportunity to become a PLA scholar also means providing them with an invaluable experience that is sure to leave a positive life-long impact. This impact does not only affect one student, but all of those who surround them while at BGSU and beyond. In PLA, we learn that making a small positive change in a community is not an isolated event, but rather it improves society as a whole in some capacity.
