Marvin Center for Student Leadership

Hi! My name is Maison DeWalt. I am a senior at Bowling Green State University pursuing a bachelor's of science in business administration with specializations in supply chain management and international business. I am a member of the 2016 Cohort of the Sidney A. Ribeau President's Leadership Academy (PLA) and the Honors College. I am enrolled in the Honors Learning Community, participate on the Honors College Student Advisory Board and serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Undergraduate Student Government (USG). I work on campus as a Student Leadership Assistant (SLA) in the C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership, assisting the Marvin Center staff in "developing, administering and assessing various leadership and educational programming." Through these involvements and my time at BGSU, I have discovered my passion for civic engagement and leadership development.

The Marvin Center for Student Leadership, in particular, has been instrumental in helping me to realize these passions. Through my work as an SLA, I have been afforded the opportunity to contribute to the growth of others as a peer facilitator. Engaging in conversations surrounding leadership as a learned process with fellow undergraduates has been very rewarding. Moreover, participating in and facilitating the Marvin Center's Competency Certificates (Ethical Leadership Certificate, Inclusive Leadership Certificate and Global Leadership Certificate) has allowed me to see how students at BGSU become more informed leaders, stronger critical thinkers and social change agents equipped to make decisions in an ethical and inclusive manner on campus and in their communities.  

Therefore, my Falcon Funded project aims to support the efforts of the Marvin Center for Student Leadership. The Center's strong commitment to the growth of others through experiential learning and workshops provides students with the skills necessary to become agents of positive social change. Providing instruction rooted in the theories of servant leadership and relational leadership, the SLAs and staff of the Marvin Center positively impact BGSU and beyond by graduating self-aware leaders who are prepared to serve others in ethical and inclusive capacity.
